Visiting Student Researchers

Rice University welcomes undergraduate visiting student researchers who are invited by a Rice faculty member or academic department to participate in an experiential research-specific learning opportunity. These individuals must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree-seeking program at another institution.

How do I apply?

STEP 1
Work with the academic department to apply for the specific research program.

International visiting researchers and departments will also work with the Office of International Students and Scholars to obtain the necessary pre-certifications, if applicable.

STEP 2
Students should submit all of the required paperwork to the academic department, including:

  1. Official college transcript from all colleges or universities attended
  2. Dean of Students Recommendation Form
  3. Proof of Meningococcal Vaccination Record or Waiver (if under 22 years old)
  4. Other documents as determined by the academic department

STEP 3
Upon approval from the academic department (and the OISS office for international students) visiting researchers will submit the online application, along with a non-refundable application fee of $100.

Students will include the academic department and faculty member that they will be working with during the course of their visit on campus in their application.

STEP 4
The Office of the Registrar will create the visiting student researcher's record and complete registration procedures.
